PS2-SAP
This
is a switch input compatible interface or
"
All
17 switches on the DualShock handset are available as 3.5mm jack sockets.
In addition, there are two 9 way D type connectors where you
can plug in customised proportional analogue joysticks built to suit any
persons physical needs, disability or requirements.
All
of the switch inputs ports are electrically isolated from the PS2 electronics
in order to increase safety, and buffered to increase
reliability.
In
addition, there is a buzzer and two light emitting diodes to give a visual
and auditory indication for when the rumble motors are or would have been
activated.
The
general physical external appearance is as below, but is subject to slight
design changes and improvements.
The
unit will be CE marked in accordance with the requirements of the Medical
Devices Directive.
Feedback from trials of the prototype
have
been very positive.
SWITCH controller: Works very well, with no shorting out when you press
left/right or up/down simultaneously. Very nice!
SWITCH COMPATIBILITY: Absolutely superb. I ran your box with 9 switches,
with the main switch running through two extension cords (I was trying to
get the unit to ghost), and had absolute perfect response from your unit.
Brilliant!
ADAPTERS:
Dreamcast -
Didn't work
with the analogue sticks for some reason. However, can
still play some games that don't need the analogue thumb
stick.
Xbox -
Worked a treat! Had great fun playing "Burnout
3".
GameCube -
Again worked very nicely indeed.
Great stuff.
PC-
Good
news. It works well using a Speed-Link USB interface. I've been playing
one switch games using JoyToKey:
http://www.oneswitch.org.uk/2/I/JoyToKey/JoyToKey.htm as
well as using switches to control the mouse pointer. It's nice and easy to
test your unit on a PC, thanks to the Game Controllers control panel utility
that's standard with XP.
Overall,
I'm really impressed with your work on
this.
Many thanks to Barrie Ellis at
www.OneSwitch.org.uk
for his help and critique in identifying problems and
shortcomings.
In addition to the interface, you will need
the switches to plug into it. You can either source
these yourself if you know what it is you want,
or I can offer an assessment service to determine what special switching
may be most appropriate. This will depend very much on where you are of
course.
The customised analogue joysticks need to be
individually manufactured and again I can provide that service for you. Please
note that you can also connect switches to the analogue ports even
driving games can be played to a limited extent with just two switches and
a non spring return throttle stick.
Please contact me for pricing as this will depend
on your individual needs.
