An independent assessment and engineering
service for persons with a disability who require Special Controls
in order to be able to access powered wheelchair mobility or other Assistive
Technology.
The most recent project undertaken was to re-engineer a project started by a local specialist disability college. They found that they did not have the skills and expertise necessary to complete the project such that it could be installed on the client's powered chair. The purpose of the project was to provide a very simple scanner which the client in question could use more as a developmental tool than as a method of independent powered mobility.
To this end, the control system was completely re-assembled into a different enclosure with additional components required for power supply and interfacing.
The scanning display was retained "as is" although the internal wiring and assembly needed modifications. The dispaly assembly is not how I would have chosen to manufacture such an item, but college funds were limited and the display is not so safety critical as the main control unit.
As per the requirements of the Medical Devices Directive a User Manual was supplied, and a full Technical Contstruction File created.
